Definitions for Postmodernism

A rejection of metanarrative: Lyotard '84
High art and popular culture become blurred:
Style over substance: Pretty/interesting images= good quality?
The real and the represented become blurred:
Playfulness:
Parody: Mocking an existing text
Pastiche: Like parody but out of respect and done in a serious way.
Bricolage: the process of assembling artefacts from bits and pieces of other things, like a collage of things.
Simulcra: No original- everything is a copy.
Simulcrum: Copy without an original. The ultimate capitalist artefact- alienation from reality.
Society is ran by simulations, but are we celebrating or criticising them?
Postmodernism doesn't make you decide. Everything is in play, less defined, more fun.
